Day 72

Teach & Preach

Read Matthew 11:1

Matthew 11:1 describes Jesus’ focus and determination to “be about His Father’s business” (Luke 2:49). He had given His disciples their marching orders and without hesitation continued on “to teach (instruct) and to preach (proclaim).” This account illustrates the importance of the example Jesus set while on earth.

Jesus commanded His disciples and expected them to obey. He didn’t stick around to “micro-manage” their work. He continued leading by example. We as Christians should follow that example. First, we should obey the instructions laid out in God’s Word. Second, we should teach and preach God’s Word. Third, we should not micro-manage the work of others but continue on being “about the Father’s business.” It is not our place to worry about what everyone else is doing. We have our instructions.

Our instructions include teaching or instructing. 1 Timothy 4:6 says, “If you instruct the brethren in these things, you will be a good minister of Jesus Christ...” We are also to preach or proclaim as a herald. 2 Tim 4:2 says, “Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season...” Proclaim as a herald for the king in both good times and bad times. Preach the word!

We are “a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation. His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light” 1 Peter 2:9. Be that special person! Preach the word!
