Day 82
It is a shame for ones to be filled with jealousy such as the members of the party of Sadducees. They arrested the Apostles and put them in jail. But, during the night an Angel of the Lord came and opened the doors and brought them out and told them “Go stand in the Temple Courts and tell the people the full message of this new life”. (Acts 5:20)
Then the Apostles were brought before the Sanhedrin and the high priest where they accused them of their teachings and were very determined to make us guilty of this man’s blood. Peter replied, “we must obey God instead of man”. (Acts 5:29) Instead of obeying the order of the rulers, they grew more courageous and diligent in spreading the gospel. When they heard this they wanted to put them to death. A Pharisee named Gamaliel stepped in an ordered these men outside for awhile. He proceeded to remind them of Theadus claiming to be somebody, and was killed; and of Judas the Galilean who led a band of people in revolt, and he too with his men was killed. He advised them to leave these Godly men alone. For if their activity is of human origin, it would fail. If it is from God, you will not be able to stop them. You would be fighting against God.
Then, every day from morning to night, they ceased not to pursue this great work, and took all opportunities to preach in the temple, though within sight of the Sanhedrim and among its chief members. They were engaged privately from house to house; and on the whole one way or another, it was their constant business to teach and to preach Jesus as the Messiah. “And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name”. (Acts 5:41) “For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord. (2 Cor.4:5) ”Ye shall be witnesses unto me”. (Acts 1:8) One late author Joe Bayly wrote “Jesus Christ didn’t commit the Gospel to an advertising agency; He commissioned disciples.” That commission still stands.
In your life, is it commission--or omission?
