Day 63

Preach Good Tidings

Read Isaiah 61:1

Ever try to convince someone to change their mind about something by browbeating them into your way of thinking? How did it work for you? Maybe that is why we are commanded to preach “good tidings”.

People generally are more inclined to adopt a new mindset if it is presented to them in positive terms and demonstrates that there is something in it for them. For example, how willing are you to give up something you have valued your entire life by being subjected to humiliation, ridicule, or embarrassment?

Preach good tidings. Tell the sinner the news that even though he has been living a live without God’s blessings, those blessings are available to him. Give the sinner hope. Impress upon his mind that Jesus came to this earth to make a way for him to have an abundant life here and eternal life in a place that is free from all the anguish and tribulation that are part of this world. Remind him that God does not expect perfection from him, but has provided a way for him to overcome his imperfections so that he is “perfect” in God’s sight.

Preach good tidings. Remind the wanderer that there is a way home. Walk by his side; show him the love of God through your care for him. Help him through his tough times, because we all have them at one time or another and you may be the next victim.

“Let nothing you dismay. Remember Christ ... came to save us all from Satan’s powers when we had gone astray.” Talk about good tidings!
