Day 180

A Samaritan Woman

Read John 4:1-26

His culture taught him that because he was a man it was beneath his dignity to talk to a woman in a public place. It was ill mannered and rude. His culture taught him that because they were not pure blood Jews it was a sinful and shameful thing for him to have any contact with a Samaritan and “unclean to be close enough to smell one.” His culture taught him to hate all Samaritans. Yet, here he is deliberately in Samaria and talking to a Samaritan woman at a public well! His own disciples did not want to do this so they questioned Jesus. What ever moved Jesus to deny his culture and walk up to her uninvited and talk to her?

Jesus is his Father’s Son! Jesus loved her without hesitation and without shame (John 3:14-17, 1 John 4:7-11). Jesus wanted to give her the truth without prejudice and without pride. Jesus had no care for the world’s way and he cared not one bit to be politically correct (John 14:6, 8:31-32). Jesus is her redeemer and he wanted her to be saved from her sin (John 1:1-29).

Jesus went to this woman because she needed the message of truth from God he had to give her. It is the message of salvation. He wanted to her to know that the water he had to give her would give her eternal life, that his water would quench the thirst of her soul now and forever (also see John 1:1-4). Jesus will abundantly supply every need of the human spirit from God (Matthew 5:6). Living has taught us that anything from this world always fails us.

Is there anyone you know that is not readily accepted by others? Someone whom your environment has taught you not to like or even love? Someone whom you have decided is not worthy of our attention? Find the love of Christ’s heart and allow the Spirit of God to break you free of those shackles that keep you from showing and telling the greatest message the human heart has ever heard! Go to them now and share with them the story of Calvary!

Tell them of their Christ their Savior and Lord, of the Son of God, the Word of God, who is their Redeemer.
