Day 192
There are many warnings in the New Testament regarding sin. However, the warnings in Mark 9:30-50 are the kind that say “handle with care.” Mark 9:30-50 gives many warnings from Christ to his disciples. 1) The Son of Man would be betrayed and killed (an example of them not understanding until after it happened), 2) we should be servants of all, 3) to not forbid others who are doing God’s work, 4) to not cause the little ones to stumble, and 4) self denial by doing away with that which would keep us from Heaven.
We are warned about how we react to each other. When we talk about our brethren, those we know and those we do not know, we should do so with love and kindness. Many times we take the word of a good friend without checking out what they say. Timothy was warned, 1 Timothy 5:17-22.
Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and doctrine. For the Scripture says, “You shall not muzzle an ox while it treads out the grain,” and, “The laborer is worthy of his wages.” Do not receive an accusation against an elder except from two or three witnesses. Those who are sinning rebuke in the presence of all, that the rest also may fear. I charge you before God and the Lord Jesus Christ and the elect angels that you observe these things without prejudice, doing nothing with partiality. Do not lay hands on anyone hastily, nor share in other people’s sins; keep yourself pure. NKJV
The judging we are to do is righteous judgment, “Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment,” John 7:24. Just because we do not know someone or a friend tells us something, does not mean they are wrong or it is true. We need two or three witness according to 1 Timothy 5:19 and Matthew 18:15-17. Therefore, we are warned to be gentle Galatians 5:22, 2 Timothy 2:24 and Titus 3:2. Christ was gentle and long suffering with his disciples while they came to the knowledge of truths they did not understand.
