The English word “worship” was originally spelled “worth ship” and means to acknowledge the worth of the object worshipped. Shouldn’t we all acknowledge God’s worth in spirit (in contrast to material ways) and in truth (in contrast to falsehood). The scriptures tell us that we must worship in spirit and truth and not what man has added to the services. We go to worship God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit only and not to be entertained.

We read about Jesus going out of His way in Samaria to offer the Samaritan woman “living water” and revealing that her spiritual beliefs were questionable. She did not know who to worship, where to worship, or how to worship. One author says, “that Jesus here declares that all religions are not acceptable before God, and some worshippers act in ignorance and unbelief”. And Jesus said “Salvation is from the Jews”. Our savior was a Jew and Jews were the first messengers of the good news. And the only faith that God will accept is that which came through the Jews. Of course the Bible is of Jewish origin. And the Word tells us how to worship, by observing the Lords Supper (Cor.11:23-28), singing (Eph. 5:19), praying (Acts 2:42), teaching (Acts 2:42), giving (1 Cor.16:1-2). God tells us that “Worship” is action motivated from the heart of reverence. However, there is vain worship mentioned in the bible. (Matt. 15:9)

There is unauthorized acts (II John 9-11), and there is ignorant worship (Acts 17:23-31). Let us focus on HIM in true worship:

Right Object---GOD, Right Attitude---In Spirit, Right way---In truth.

Focus on JESUS -- He is the only way!
