Day 207
The miracles of Jesus were done to show others He was the Divine Son of God. Yes, there were some who followed Him because of what they could get. If they were hungry, they might be fed. If they were blind, they might receive sight. If they were sick, the might be made well.
When Jesus said “I am the bread of life” the people were still arguing about who Jesus really was. Here are people who saw him and saw the many miracles (proofs) and still did not believe who He was. Many just walked away from Jesus (John 6:66) when challenged to make a decision.
Moses gave manna to the people of old. This manna came from God. Now here is the “bread of life” and the one who is greater than Moses standing in front of them and all they can think about is the physical bread and not see the “bread of life”.
This section of Scripture shows us the absolute necessity of trusting in Jesus. He is the one who gives “eternal life.” There is no other. Just like physical food and without it there is no survival. Without out Jesus, there is no spiritual life and no eternal life (Acts 4:12; John 8:24). Jesus provides what we need (not always what we want). By our trust and submission to Him we benefit greatly. Psalm 34:8 (NASV) “O taste and see that the Lord is good; How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!”
